Diskinternals iPod Recovery: ugly main window

In terms of its functionality, this program is similar to the Diskinternals Music Recovery utility, but its interface design is surely intended especially for iPods.

It easily recognizes and scans iPods, but surprisingly it does not support AAC, the iPodís native format. In addition, the interface design is not at all brilliant, even though it is close to the iPod standards

Just as its older sister-program, the utility has the integrated player allowing to preview the recovered sound files. The files can be restored/previewed from any type of media. The PowerSearch algorithm allows to locate files by signatures is also used in this product.

  • The built-in media player can play back recoverable files in background.
  • Recovers files from any media, not just iPod.
  • Includes the proprietary signature search algorithm (trade name PowerSearch) to recover files from badly damaged media.
  • Supports MP3 and WMA tags.
  • Supports iPod players directly.

  • Power Search overly sensitive; locates parts of recoverable files.
  • The tool does not support AAC, the iPodís native format. A big negative!
  • A-la iPod design is dreadful (your mileage may vary).

Whatís the point of releasing the product to recover iPod music but not incorporating the iPodís native AAC format? The user interface allegedly mimics iPodís native software, but does not look or work all that wonderful. In general, this product is not recommended. If you need a tool to recover files from your iPod, look for products that at least support AAC.
