Primary partition

Primary DOS partition is a grave legacy of the old DOS versions. It has remained since the times when DOS used to work with one partition only. It cannot exceed 2 GB (under FAT 16). It coincides with the first logical drive on the hard drive. Only the primary partition can be loadable. It is created by the FDISK utility.
